February 5th Primaries: Anything But Super Duper Tuesday
After the results are announced in the Florida primary Tuesday evening, eyes will quickly turn to ``Super Tuesday'', when a record 24 states will be holding primaries or caucuses on February 5th, including the delegate rich states of California, New York, and New Jersey. Four years ago, only 10 states held primaries on Super Tuesday.
So instead of referring to February 5th simply as ``Super Tuesday'', political analysts have attempted to add a little more oomph to this historic day, by referring to it as ``Super Duper Tuesday'', ``Giga Tuesday'', ``Tsunami Tuesday'', and ``The Tuesday of Destiny.''
Personally, I haven't warmed up to any of these names, which is why I think if we put our minds to it, a new nickname should be christened before it's too late.
So I decided to email some of the best and brightest minds in journalism to see if they could suggest a new tag.
Here are a few recommendations:
``Right now, I am going with Woozy Tuesday (which is how most of the country will feel on the morning of Feb. 6)’’
-Walter Shapiro, Salon.com
``Ruby Tuesday'' might not be bad: It suggests wealth, and there's a wealth of delegates at stake. But I think the Rolling Stones have a lock on that title.’’
-Clyde Haberman, New York Times Metro columnist
``If Rudy Giuliani ever won a primary, it would be called "Rudy Tuesday’’
-Barry Popik, contributor-consultant to the Oxford English Dictionary, Dictionary of American Regional English, and the Historical Dictionary of American Slang.
` `I'm calling it the National Primary.’’
-Errol Louis, N.Y. Daily News columnist
``Turgid Tuesday".

All fine suggestions, anyone of which is better than ``Super Duper Tuesday’’, coined by Bill Schneider, CNN’s senior political analyst, according to the New York Times; or its second cousin``Tsunami Tuesday’’ (too Japanese).
Since I’m not the best at anything, and hardly have the brightest mind, I should be prohibited from placing my offering in the suggestion box. But since this is my blog, I’ll bend the rules this one time.
My new label for February 5th would be ``Takeover Tuesday’’, based on the premise that the super primary be compared to the rough-and tumble nature of the corporate world; that is, which ever one of the leading Democratic contenders: whether it be Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, wins the lions share of the delegates on February 5th, it could be likened to a company buying up shares on the market, be it friendly or hostile.
I have to admit, though, that ``Turgid Tuesday’’ has a nice ring to it.
