How Much Do We Know About Iowa?
With the Iowa caucus countdown ticking away, a great deal of attention has been paid to the presidential horse race and the political landscape of Iowa. The latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, showing Iraq (33 percent) as the single most important issue on the minds of voters, followed by health care at 26 percent.
So as the candidates press the flesh of voters in pushing their agendas, it will be reported more times than we can count, that ever since 1976, the Iowa caucuses assumed their prominence on the national stage.
But let's remember the ``Hawkeye State'' is known for more than just its politics.
The Iowa Department of Economic Development, for example, reports:
1.) Iowa has one of the lowest combined auto insurance premiums in the country
2.) Ranked 6th in the nation as most livable state.
3.) Ranked 15th highest state in home ownership rates; with 73.4 % owning their own homes.
4.) Over 90 percent of Iowa’s population is covered by health insurance, ranked 3rd in the country.
5.) Ames, Iowa is ranked the 3rd best educated workforce in the country
6.) Ranked 6th as the healthiest state in the country
7.) Iowa has the 7th shortest commute time in the country, averaging 18.1 minutes.
8.) Iowa has the highest number of nine-hole golf courses in the nation.
