Madonna Desperately Seeking Induction

One can only imagine Buddy Holly, Janis Joplin, and Jim Morrison twisting and turning in their graves, when it was announced Friday, that Madonna had been nominated to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, along with eight others, including disco queen Donna Summer, John Mellencamp, and the Beastie Boys.
Why isn't anyone flying into rage over why the Rock Hall swings open its doors to anyone who has cracked the top 10 charts, instead of sticking to its rich musical heritage?
Seeing the dance club superstar, along with Summer, in the Hall, would be like having Kevin Costner and
Durham Bulls in the Baseball Hall of Fame; they may be popular and sold a heap of tickets, but would they belong?
Which begs the question, what exactly is the criteria for the earning a nomination to the Rock?
      According to its
website,  artists become eligible after 25 years of their first release. Fair enough. But then it states, ``criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.''
So remind me again how Maddy has influenced Rock and Roll with such ditties as
``Border Line’’, ``Lucky Star’’, and ``Material Girl’’ ?
Can Gloria Gaynor or  J.Lo be far behind?
